Stage in het buitenland. Het klinkt als een exotische ervaring! Wil jij graag een stage in het buitenland, maar weet je niet wat je allemaal moet regelen? Dan helpt dit artikel jou op weg. Een buitenlandse stage zorgt zeker voor een unieke ervaring, maar voordat je jouw koffer al inpakt, moet er een heleboel geregeld worden. Raak niet in paniek! Woonruimte
Om je thuis te voelen in een land wat je niet kent, is het van belang een fijne woonruimte te hebben. Dit dien je te regelen voordat je stage gaat lopen in het buitenland. Maar hoe pak je dit aan? Regel dit voor je vertrek! Hier zijn verschillende manieren voor. Soms regelt jouw school of universiteit een woonruimte, maar dit is niet altijd zo. In dat geval moet je zelf op zoek gaan. Waar begin je? Via het internet kom je al een heel eind. Een aanbod aan studentenkamers in het buitenland is op vele website te vinden, zoals op Easykamer of HousingAnywhere. Zo kun je gemakkelijk een leuke kamer vinden.
Visum
Een belangrijk document is je visum. Voor sommige landen heb je geen visum of werkvergunning nodig en is die stage in het buitenland al heel dichtbij. Dit is het geval als je als Nederlandse burger stage gaat lopen in landen binnen de Europese Unie. Ga je buiten Europa stage lopen? Dan is een visum of werkvergunning wel een must-have. Let op dat je dit op tijd aanvraagt, want dit is niet altijd gemakkelijk. De wachttijd kan soms erg lang zijn. Het kan dagen of zelfs maanden duren voordat alles volledig geregeld is.
Verzekeringen
Zorg dat je goed verzekerd bent als je voor jouw stage naar het buitenland gaat. Je wilt niet in het ziekenhuis belanden en vervolgens een torenhoge rekening krijgen. Check dus voordat je vertrekt welke verzekeringen je nodig hebt en of je Nederlandse verzekering in het buitenland geldt. Wist je dat er speciale verzekeringen voor stages in het buitenland zijn? Van een aanvullende verzekering tot een reisverzekering. Op de website van Studenten Verzekeringen vind je dit allemaal. Ook vind je hier een checklist. Loop die vooral even door.
OV-kaart
In het buitenland kun je je OV-kaart natuurlijk niet gebruiken. Dat is balen, maar wees gerust! Je kunt een OV-vergoeding krijgen voor de periode dat je stage hebt in het buitenland. Ook dit moet op tijd aangevraagd worden. Het liefst twee maanden voordat je vertrekt. Het bedrag dat je ontvangt is €95,51 per maand in 2019. Gelijk een OV-vergoeding aanvragen? Dit kun je doen op de website van DUO.
Paspoort
Zonder paspoort kun je natuurlijk niet op reis gaan. Dit document is erg belangrijk als identiteitsbewijs in het buitenland. Zorg er ook voor dat je paspoort geldig is gedurende je hele verblijf, dus ook als je terug gaat. Een belangrijke tip: maak kopieën van je paspoort. Het zou een ramp zijn om je paspoort kwijt te raken. We gaan er niet vanuit maar mocht het toch gebeuren, dan heb je in ieder geval de kopieën.
Vliegticket
Is het land waar je stage gaat lopen ver van huis? Dan is een vliegticket vanzelfsprekend. Boek op tijd, zodat de kosten niet al te hoog worden. Veel studenten overwegen om direct de terugreis ook al te boeken. Pas hier echter mee op. Het kan zijn dat je stageperiode ingekort wordt of juist uitloopt. Stel ook dat er iets gebeurt waardoor je eerder terug moet, is het erg zonde van het extra geld. Wat je wel kan doen, is alvast een ticket zonder datum terug reserveren. Geld
Lang leve studiefinanciering! Maar krijg je dit ook als je tijdelijk voor jouw stage in het buitenland bent? Jazeker! Je studiefinanciering loopt gewoon door. Er zitten wel twee voorwaarden aan. Je blijft als voltijdstudent ingeschreven bij je Nederlandse opleiding en je stage moet een verplicht onderdeel hiervan zijn. Voldoe je hieraan? Dan krijg je jouw centjes gewoon binnen. Geld opnemen kan in de meeste landen met gemak bij een geldautomaat. Let wel op de extra kosten, zoals transactiekosten (kosten voor het pinnen in het buitenland) en wisselkoers (kosten voor het omrekenen van euro’s naar een vreemde valuta).
